Flatbed Laminators

Glenro’s flatbed laminating systems offer a compact and affordable proven solution for manufacturers of many laminated products. Flatbed lamination is a new method of lamination for roll goods and sheets that utilizes dry adhesive systems (hot melts) that do not require long drying/curing tunnels to process. Instead, heat is quickly conducted through two opposed pressure loaded belts into the laminate to heat activate the dry adhesive web, powder, or film layer without the release of any volatiles or smoke. It is the simultaneous application of heat and pressure to activate the hot melt adhesive that makes flatbed lamination so successful in producing high performance bonding. Glenro’s flatbed laminating systems laminate a wide variety of materials such as fabric, nonwovens, metal foils, foams, composite panels and wood products in a surprisingly small space. Flatbed lamination is so successful in producing the highest quality bonding due to extended dwell time under heat and pressure conditions. This results in what we call a high PT2 value — Pressure + Time and Temperature. Conventional laminating segregates the heating and pressure components of the process. Typically the laminate is exposed to pressure for only the brief period that it passes through the nip roller assembly. By contrast, the Glenro flatbed laminator system combines the two essential components of heat and pressure into one simultaneous process. A continuous plane of heat from the top and bottom with a tensioning or pneumatic pressure system produces excellent bonding with, in most cases, surprisingly low adhesive usage.
